Position Summary

We are seeking a Scientist/Sr. Scientist to join an exciting, fast growing and well-financed new company to develop novel gene editing therapies for serious diseases. The successful candidates will be integral in developing the next generation of genetic therapies for hematological disorders such as beta thalassemia and sickle cell diseases. The position requires enthusiasm, passion, attention to detail and a desire to create new medicines for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process for efficient gene editing of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells with CRISPR technology
  • Design and execute process scale-up activities, including stem cell isolation, gene modification, and process evaluation
  • Perform characterization studies of gene modified hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells
  • Assist in writing and revising technical documents
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for implementation into process development
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities, as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph D. in biology or related scientific discipline with at least 2 years of experience, or BS/MS in biology or related scientific discipline with at least 10 years of experience, preferably in industry setting
  • Experience and knowledge in variety of cell types, including stem cells
  • Experience in execution and development of analytical assays
  • Solid technical skills in molecular and cell biology
  • Comfort in working with human blood products
  • Demonstrated ability to design, modify, and execute experimental protocols independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hematopoietic stem cells
  • Experience with automated, large scale cell processing and selection systems for processing human blood products
  • Exceptional aseptic technique and primary cell culture skills
  • Hands on experience in flow cytometry
  • Understanding principles of process development and characterization
  • Working knowledge of good manufacturing procedures
  • Experience in technology transfer and working with contract organizations
