Senior Research Associate, Muscle Biology

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Research Associate to join an exciting, fast growing and well financed new company to develop novel gene editing therapies for serious diseases. The successful candidate will be integral in discovering and developing the next generation of genetic therapies for a wide range of indications. The successful candidate will have significant experience and technical proficiency in performing experiments in cellular and molecular biology, including cell culture and molecular biology working with DNA, RNA and protein. The position requires enthusiasm, passion, attention to detail, and a desire to create important new medicines for patients.

Responsibilities 

  • Perform research requiring molecular and cell biology techniques including mammalian cell culture, transfection, cell-based assays and analysis
  • Perform research requiring molecular biology and protein chemistry techniques including cloning, qPCR, mRNA and DNA analysis, DNA sequencing, western blots, and other plate-based assays,
  • Gather and analyze experimental data under the direction of the research scientist or group leader, present to key stakeholders, as required
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities, as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in biology or related discipline and 10+ years of relevant research experience, or
  • MS in biology or related discipline and 5+ years of relevant research experience
  • Proficient in the relevant areas of cell and molecular biology
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Track record of intellectually challenging oneself to enhance scientific capabilities
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a results oriented research team; highly organized with significant attention to detail
  • Ability to think and manage strategically, with an attention to detail as needed; high energy level, focus, a passion and sense of urgency for developing important new medicines for devastating diseases
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior research experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industries desired but not required
  • Prior research experience on mammalian gene therapy or gene editing desired but not required
  • Extensive experience in molecular cloning techniques highly desired
  • Prior experience with viral vectors highly desired
  • Prior experience with culture of muscle cells desired
