Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Head of Liver Therapeutics, the Senior Scientist will be integral in discovering and developing the next generation of genetic therapies for our in vivo gene editing Liver programs. This position requires prior industry experience and a solid scientific understanding of the biology of genome editing technologies, and its applications to treat human liver disease. This is an exciting and interdisciplinary role for a highly qualified and motivated individual. The successful candidate will be a confident leader, with attention to detail and significant prior success in preclinical stage program and scientific leadership / management for therapeutic programs in the biotechnology industry. We are seeking someone with a sense of urgency for developing important new medicines for devastating diseases and who is interested in forging new and uncharted paths to patients for the exciting CRISPR technology

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the structuring of the program research plan(s) for in vivo gene editing
  • Manage the scientific and operational aspects of the program(s), including developing overall strategy, tactical implementation plans, fully integrated program timelines, monitoring key milestones and decision points, to drive delivery of project objectives
  • Interfaces with, and coordinates with relevant internal and/or external functional groups to ensure timely execution of program activities including anticipating and identifying project risks, mitigations and contingencies, and supporting timely action plans and issue resolution
  • Represents program to Senior Management; ensures effective communication to align program activities with corporate strategy, and ensure effective program execution
  • Collaborate with and serve as scientific mentor to assigned Research Associates, directing the work of Research Associates at the laboratory bench as necessary
  • Develop scientific talent

Minimum Qualifications

  • Direct experience with cell and molecular biology techniques, with assays and technologies related to Gene editing, and viral and non-viral DNA/RNA delivery
  • Ability to work independently and successfully in a matrix environment, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, integrate cross-functional issues and balance competing priorities effectively
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, a high degree of energy, accuracy and attention to detail, and a passion for delivering important new medicines to patients with devastating diseases

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a scientific discipline with 5+ year experience in life sciences industry, with 3+ years of demonstrated leadership experience managing cross-functional preclinical teams
  • Experience with pathophysiology of liver
  • Hand-on experience with mammalian and primary hepatocyte cell culture, transfection, cell-based assays and analysis
  • Experience in managing external collaborations
  • Thorough understanding of preclinical and early clinical development of gene therapy medicines
  • Experience leading gene editing or gene therapy programs
